A small introduction to Tracker
Dogs
|
The problem of finding reliable information on the Internet has
been replaced with the problem of knowing where search engines
are, what they are designed to retrieve and how to use
them. Tracker Dogs is a meta search engine, designed to
intelligently select and interface with multiple remote search
engines, and present the results to the user according to their
relevance. This makes it possible to search the whole
Internet, with its infinite number of resources and all its
various search tools, using a uniform user interface.
Tracker Dogs is completely developed by Koen Witters, a final
year student computer science at the university of Antwerp,
Belgium. His research for his thesis 'Meta Search Engine' is
the scientific foundation of the algorithms used by Tracker
Dogs. The most recent studies described in research
papers, written at various Universities all over the world, are
evaluated and integrated into the Tracker Dogs meta search
engine, which makes it a state-of-the-art web utility like no
other currently found on the Internet. In order for Koen
to completely concentrate on the meta search engine itself, his
cousin Erik Wollebrants handles the commercial side of Tracker
Dogs, which includes attracting visitors, handling feedback and
managing site revenue. Erik is also a student computer science
at the university of Antwerp, Belgium. The specific
master education of both Koen and Erik guarantee the scientific
and professional foundation of the Tracker Dogs meta search
engine.

Tracker Dogs better than other
search engines?
|
Well, euh.... Yep! Why? I will explain. The
Tracker Dogs are not the normal pets you might expect. They are
well trained in finding web pages. How they do there job? Simple.
First they go searching on some popular search engines, such as
Altavista, HotBot, Northern Light, AllTheWeb,... . They extracts
all the results and combines them in an own list. Then this list
is presented to you. So The Tracker Dogs combines all the power
of those search engines in one. That sounds beautiful doesn't it?
But there is one more thing to make this the best search engine
you have ever seen: Tracker Dogs is user friendly. Of course: dog
is man's best friend!

Does magic make it possible for
the dogs to search the net?

changes I should introduce, and how I can make the Tracker Dogs
more user friendly.

Who are we?
|
I, Koen Witters, started this Tracker Dogs meta search
engine in 1999. I had two things planned. First, I wanted to
make the most perfect meta search engine there is (for personal
use as well as to put it online for everyone). And second, I
want to make money out of it (as much as possible of
course). The first part includes developing the meta search
engine program, developing the web page, putting Tracker Dogs
on a server connected to the Internet, etc. The second part
includes finding the right affiliate programs (banners to get
revenue), displaying the right banners at the right moment to
the right person, contacting people to make this meta search
engine popular (computer magazines,...), making sure Tracker
Dogs is always listed in other search engines, etc.
Because my time is limited, I had to make a choice between the
two different aspects. The more time I spend in making the meta
search engine perfect, the less revenue I will get and the less
visitors I will receive. The more time I spend in earning
revenue and attracting people, the less time I can spend in
developing the search engine. Since I don't want to
choose either of them, I contacted my cousin Erik Wollebrants
(also a student computer-science). The deal is that I will keep
myself busy with the first part, and my cousin Erik will do the
second part. In this way Tracker Dogs can become an
almost perfect meta search engine, and can become known all
over the world. Great isn't it!
