Why I build this Tracker Dogs
site
|
Too much spare time, and I am addicted to the keyboard keys beneath my
fingers. Well, the main reason is that I am not pleased with the
current search engines and meta search engines. So I decided to write my
own meta search engine.

My computer
history/knowledge
|
|
It all started with my uncle. He owned a Commodore, so almost every
day I went there to play some games. One day my father came home
with an XT. So then I could mess around on my own. But I still
didn't know that much about computers. Then one computer followed
the other, and I wanted to make games of my own (haven't we all
started like this?). So I started to read a book about GW-BASIC. I
was about 14 years old. Then I learned Quick-basic. But this
language had to many limits, so I started to learn C, then C++. I
wrote a lot of small games, but the ideas in my head where from a
size of Westwood-Blizzard. So together with my cousin Erik we formed
a game developing team: ThunderCousins. We started to write a game
called Deep, but as you might guess we never finished it. I still
have a floppy that contains the last version of it. But now I am
older, wiser, more experienced in programming techniques, and my
knowledge has extended. I have learned Java, Java-script (a bit),
HTML, Perl, assembly, Fortran,... . But I still don't know as much
as I want to.
I started using Linux in 1998. And now I only use Linux! I think
that if someone uses Linux for 3 months or so, he will never go back
to Windows. Why? Try it yourself and find out!
At this moment the Tracker Dogs are taking up a lot of my time. I am
also interested in Artificial Life, and have already build up many
ideas, but the time to implement it isn't there.
As you can see, computers have always been a big part of my life,
and I think that it will never change.

My other
interests
|
- Drawing (yep, the dogs on top of the page are made by me): I like
manga/anime drawn figures. I also like the paintings of Picasso,
especially the ones of his cubistic period.
- Music (playing and listening): And the kind of music that I like?
Rock and Alternative music: Zita Swoon, Das Pop, Dead Man Ray,
Soulwax, De Mens, dEUS, Noordkaap, Gorki, Eels, Cake, PJ Harvey,
Nirvana, Prodigy, Daft Punk, Rammstein, Beck, Morphine, The Doors,
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Sepultura,... .
- Shooting: Some people see this as an agressive sport, but they
have obviously never been at a shooting range. And let me remind you
that the laws in Belgium are diffrent from the US. If shooting will
become prohibited because some criminals use (illegal!) guns, then
baseball should be prohibited too, because baseball bats are sometimes
used to beat up people.
- Movies: When I was little I liked action movies with Arnold
Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stalone and Bruce Lee. But now I grew out of
them. The movies that are now on top of my list: Star Wars triology,
Das Experiment, The Shawshank Redemption, Twelve Monkeys, Shrek, The
last of the Mohicans, Event Horizon, Thunderheart, Le Huitieme Jour,
Dances with wolves, Arlington Road, ... .
- Going out,
having fun, enjoying life!
